Dental Hygiene

It’s hard to overstate the importance of good dental hygiene. Healthy teeth-cleaning habits can be the difference between a healthy smile that lasts long into the future and frequent procedures and treatments to fix damaged teeth.

At our office, we enjoy having the opportunity to talk to you and your family about dental hygiene. We welcome any questions you might have. We try to make a special effort to teach children how to take care of their teeth, so they can start developing good dental habits while they’re young.

As much as we love to see you in our office, our priority is to make sure you’re taking care of your teeth, so you can avoid fillings and extractions down the road!

What Are the Essentials of Dental Hygiene?

Everyone has heard that it’s important to brush and floss, but a little extra knowledge can ensure you’re really taking care of your teeth rather than just going through the motions. Here are just a few important tips for a healthy mouth:

  • Brush your teeth at least twice a day. Make sure you’re brushing in a gentle, circular motion. Aggressively scrubbing your teeth might seem like a good way to clean thoroughly, but being too rough with your brush can damage your gums!
  • Don’t forget to floss! Flossing often falls by the wayside, but it can be just as important as brushing. If you don’t floss, plaque can quickly build up between your teeth.
  • Ease up on consuming sugary or acidic foods. Consuming too much sugar can increase plaque buildup, and overly acidic foods can damage your enamel. If you’re a heavy soda drinker, for example, consider cutting back for the sake of your teeth.
  • Visit your dentist at least twice a year. When you visit our office, we can professionally clean your teeth while checking for lurking cavities. Let us help you make sure your teeth are as healthy as possible!
